Equity

As touched on in the Climate Science chapter, historic responsibility for climate change is not equal between countries globally. Long industrialised nations such as the UK are more responsible for our changing climate than less industrialised nations. Neither are the implications of climate change distributed equally. Often those least responsible for emissions are those most vulnerable to a changing climate. Therefore it is clear that climate change is also a question of equality.

A comprehensive national and international decarbonisation strategy offers the opportunity to address many social as well as environmental ills. In combination with wider efforts to restructure our economic and financial system and re-evaluate the core values held by society, we can create a decarbonised, fairer world for ourselves, the environment and future generations.
